GENERAL TAX INFORMATION
PROPERTY TAX LAW
Tax Receiver cannot waive penalties on real estate taxes after the due date for any reason (Real Property Tax Law §920)
A Property owner is not relieved of the responsibility for payment of taxes or interest prescribed by law despite failure to receive a notice of such taxes due. (Real Property Tax Law §922)
Please contact your local Assessor's office with any changes to your current mailing address. Incorrect addresses will delay delivery of your tax bill and may result in additional penalties.
TO AVOID PENALTIES
Prior to mailing TAX payments, confirm check is made out to correct payee, written amount matches dollar amount and check is signed. Incorrect payments will be returned and subject to penalties until paid in full.
IF you mail your payment at the end of the month the tax is due, be sure there is a timely official United States postmark on the envelope. Metered mail and foreign postmarks are not acceptable as date received.
NOTE: Payments made by “Bank Pay” online services do not have a United States postmark and will be subject to penalty if received after the due date. If using this method to pay taxes, please plan accordingly. Incorrect amounts will be returned.
