All dogs in the Town of Chautauqua must be licensed by 6 months of age. Current rabies vaccination must be show at the time of licensing
NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets Law, Section 7, requires all dogs in New York State to be licensed with proof of rabies vaccination. License fees will be calculated for each year the rabies vaccination is valid. License fee is $13.00/year or $5.00/year with proof of spay/neuter certificate.
TEMPORARY RESIDENTS NYS Ag and Markets require all dogs to be licensed with the Town/City in which they are visiting 30 days or longer. Proof of current rabies vaccination must be shown at time of licensing
PLEASE NOTE All dogs must be on a leash or confined to your property for the safety and welfare of our community and neighboring properties. A Dog Census will be conducted by the Town. Please have proof of your current license available. Any dog found unlicensed during the census will be subject to fines.
DOGS RUNNING AT LARGE If your dog is picked up by our Dog Control Officer, it will be taken to Chautauqua County Humane Society on Strunk Road. In order to redeem, you must come in to the Town Clerk's office to pay the animal transport fee and take a copy with you to the Humane Society with proof of current license and rabies vaccination. Additional boarding fees will apply at the Humane Society. Please contact them prior to pick-up. Dogs are held for 5 days. If there is no contact made by the owner, dog will be placed for adoption.
