The Town of Chautauqua and the Chautauqua Lake & Watershed Management Alliance partnered to complete a roadside swales stabilization project within portions of the town within the Chautauqua Lake Watershed that will have a positive impact on the environmental health of Chautauqua Lake.

What is Roadside Swale?
A roadside swale is a contoured land area or ditch covered in plants, designed to collect stormwater runoff and move it away from areas where it can't soak into the ground. |
How will it improve water quality?
By promoting sediment removal and infiltration & biofiltration of stormwater runoff, thus increasing biodiversity, water quality, & sustainability within the lake and helping to restore the local economy and recreational value the lake provides. |

The roadside swales project is funded thru the DEC water quality improvement program grant. |
